UNDERSTING YOU – THE FEET

Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”  “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”  Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” (John 13:7-8, NLT)

You cannot totally judge a person by their actions. Casual observers may diagnose an act as being mentally deranged but in some cases it could be a prelude to the unusual. “Mary took a pound of ointment of pure liquid nard [a rare perfume] that was very expensive, and she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. And the whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”  (John 12:3, TAB)

There was an outcry that this is a waste and an ignominious display of affluence but, “Jesus said, “Let her alone. She’s anticipating and honoring the day of my burial.”  (John 12:7, MSG)

A person can be seen walking up and down in specific vicinity and a hasty conclusion could be reached that such a person is on the verge of insanity or just whiling away time.  But, to the person performing the action he could actually be laying claim to the inheritance of the land.

For a paradigm shift to occur in the physical there has to be a paradigm push in the spiritual.

The Bible says that, “Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.” (John 13:3-5, NLT)

This action of Jesus has three main connotations:

Superficial—Successful Life

Symbolic—Servant Leadership

Spiritual—Supernatural Leverage (Prophetic).

The Feet

  1. Foundation: You use your feet to stand so that you can hear and see.  The feet are the support of the body.  A good foundation keeps a building upright.

“And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.”  (Ezekiel 2:1, KJV)

  1. A share in his kingdom: The fee and its washing is so important that Jesus said, without it one cannot “share” with him.

“This is the way it used to be in Israel concerning buying back property and exchanging goods: In order to make every matter legal, a man would take off his sandal and give it to the other man. This was the way a contract was publicly approved in Israel.” (Ruth 4:7, GWT)

  1. Divine direction: It is with our feet that we get to our place of destiny.

He will guard the feet of His godly ones,” (1 Samuel 2:9, TAB)

  1. Fulfillment of your destiny: Time is the difference between birth and miscarriage.  There is a time and season for everything.

They must always wash their hands and feet, or they will die. This is a permanent law for Aaron and his descendants, to be observed from generation to generation.”  (Exodus 30:21, NLT)

Death here moves beyond cessation of life but also fulfillment of destiny.

  1. Dominion: While it is with the head that you stand above your peers but it is with the feet that you put down your enemies.

He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet.” (Psalm 47:3, NLT)

When they brought out those kings to Joshua, [he] called for all the Israelites and told the commanders of the men of war who went with him, Come, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came and put their feet on the [kings’] necks.”  (Joshua 10:24, TAB)

As a Christian, you use your feet to crush the head of Satan.  “And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with you.” (Romans 16:20, TAB)

  1. Possessing Possessions:Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours. Your frontiers will stretch from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.”  (Deuteronomy 11:24, NLT)

  1. Good News: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!”  (Isaiah 52:7, TAB)

  1. Authority: “And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that
