“For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” (Isaiah 50:7, KJV)
Humans have a tendency to conform i.e. to copy, adapt or fashion ourselves after the external superficial customs of this world. We take the shape of the environment where we find ourselves instead of transforming and influencing the environment that we are. We are called the salt of the earth. We sometimes reason according to the popular norm when we are supposed to be a city set on a hill that cannot be hid.
When you know who can and will help you, you do not fall to the wiles of the enemy—your vision is not clouded and your focus is sharpened. You do not engage in unnecessary bickering because of where you are going. It is only when you have not caught a glimpse of where you are going that you get easily sidetracked.
Visions guide by ensuring that you are not distracted or derailed. No bird has optical power like the eagle. The eagle can see in great detail even at a distance of about 5 miles from its prey. When an eagle is locked in on a prey, everything else goes out of focus. Vision is your ability to keep your eyes on the objective until you achieve it.
For any situation that you find yourself or anything militating against your fulfillment, there is already a way of escape. There is the story of a truck that was stuck under a bridge in England. Experts were brought in to see how to get the truck out. Many suggestions were proffered. It was a young boy that suggested deflating the tires on the truck, this lowered the height and a tow truck was able to easily haul the truck away.
Your mind is extremely important when it comes to vision. The mind refers broadly to the capacities for thought, perception, memory and decision. It is the seat of the faculty of reasoning.
When you make good thinking a priority, you make Godly placement a possibility. The mind is a territory that Satan seeks to corrupt by all means. He knows that if he can blind your mind, he can batter your future.
Many have been indoctrinated even before stepping into the shores of this nation as an immigrant that all you can ever be is a hewer of wood and drawer of water but I am here to tell you that it is a lie from the pit of hell. Let the spirit of perseverance for possession dwell richly in you.
You are created an overcomer. It is important that you guard jealously what comes to your mind. Sometimes when people see a man that is focused they say he is too rigid because he does not bend to popular opinion. When life throws such a man a lemon, he makes lemonade. He is not a public complaints commissioner. For every situation, he knows there is a way out.
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, KJV)
For any situation, a focused man knows that there is a way because God is beautiful for all situations. “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.” (Psalm 48:1-2, KJV)
Plane rise above the turbulence or wave vortex, it is the same way that a focused man rises above every turbulence. It may be lawful to scream, argue, fornicate, commit adultery but when you know who you are, you run away from such things.
Case Study Joseph
“Then after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and she said, Lie with me. But he refused and said to his master’s wife, See here, with me in the house my master has concern about nothing; he has put all that he has in my care.
He is not greater in this house than I am; nor has he kept anything from me except you, for you are his wife. How then can I do this great evil and sin against God? She spoke to Joseph day after day, but he did not listen to her, to lie with her or to be with her Then it happened about this time that Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the men of the house were indoors. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me! But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out [of the house]”(Genesis 39:7-12, TAB)
Above is an excerpt from the story of a young boy named Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers because he had a dream. Despite the persecution he held onto his dream he did not allow his focus to sway. The master’s wife wanted to abort his dream. She would have accomplished this if Joseph gave in to her demand but Joseph refused. He not only refused, but he also recounted his experience in the master’s house; how good the master has been to him. Joseph was encouraging himself with all the things he was saying and at the same time ensuring that his vision is not clouded.
He was keeping his eyes on the vision.
While the master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph, Joseph cast his eyes on God. Who or what are you looking at. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish.”(Hebrew 12:1–2, NLT)
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”(Psalm 121:1–2,KJV)
I will is present continuous. It is a conscious act, an effort. It is not about doing it today and forgetting to do it tomorrow. Even if it seems as if I cannot see success, shadows and gloom surround me yet I will. Keep focusing. Increase your focus despite all distractions.
Habakkuk said “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls– Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”(Habakkuk 3:17–18, NKJV)
Joseph had a choice to make choose his dream or Potiphar’s wife. The greatest power that God bestowed on humans most especially Christians is our ability to make a choice. As important and powerful as it is, it is also a dangerous asset. By this ability, God placed your future in your hands.
We are the sum total of the choices that we make. If you do not like the direction of your life, maybe you need to carefully evaluate your choices and change them one at a time. You need to make choices based on your destiny.
Potiphar’s wife said lie with me. To lie means to bend down, stoop low, prostrate or to lay horizontally. Joseph knew that to lie with her will mean denigrating himself. God did not say lie down, God said arise and shine for your light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
A shift in focus from God will spell the end of any dream that you may have. Joseph was able to refuse her advances because his focus remained one and the same. “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”(Matthew 6: 22,KJV)
Joseph recognized that anything that he did wrong would be against the King of kings. “She spoke to Joseph day after day.” Listen carefully, everyday you are faced with challenges against your dream and vision but keep your focus, increase your focus.
A focused man is not one that gives excuses. Such a person is not complaining about the system being against me or the people, or the colour of my skin, etc.
Let me tell you something, fill 20 balloons with air and release them into the air. They rise up—they rise not because of their color but because of what is inside them. What is going to make you to rise is inside you.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7, KJV)
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” (Colossians 1:27, KJV)
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, KJV)
No matter how huge the dough is and the amount of yeast mixed with it, until you apply heat it does not rise. Realize that the heat you face has been programmed to only make you rise
By any name, a rose is a rose and it also smells like a rose despite the thorns. You are a rose waiting to blossom.
