“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12, TAB)
1 Corinthians 10: 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. KJV
One thing that there is no controversy about either from a spiritual or terrestrial perspective is the desire for success. God wants it for man and man wants it from God or gods or self or others. If anyone sincerely wants success or wonders from God, then you have to listen to him and obey him.
The topic, “there is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him” demonstrates the limitations of man and the endless love of God. This is because man cannot fully see nor comprehend the big picture, decide and execute. All the feasibility studies could be done and the logistics in place and man will still fail.
When you look at the Almighty God, he does not see as man sees—”…For the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b, TAB)
Though no apparent feasibility studies seems to be done by God and the logistics to fulfill a given objective might be non-existent but the counsel of God will still be fulfilled because he is—”Declaring the end and the result from the beginning, and from ancient times the things which have not [yet] been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will do all that pleases Me and fulfills My purpose,” (Isaiah 46:10, TAB)
Man can only see or better still initiate a matter but it is only the Almighty that cannot just see but declare the end and His counsel shall stand i.e. as he has said it so shall it be—”Let all the earth fear and worship the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” (Psalm 33:8-9, TAB)
Life has a series of tests and examinations along the way. Just like in school setting tests or examinations, you are sometimes presented with multiple choice exams and you have to really know because the options look similar. When it comes to real life tests, the all-knowing God will not only give you the options but he will also advise on the right choice.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,” (Deuteronomy 30:19, TAB)
A key fact that should help you in whatever step that you decide to take is the word—” I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” (John 15:5, TAB)
When you choose him and lean on him no matter how unrealistic the choice, he has promised that, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalm 32:8, NKJV)
We are a product of the steps that we take. While “others” may have influenced one way or another what you did or do but in the ultimate summary you will be credited with making the decision(s).
1 Corinthians 10: 23All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. TAB
For an individual that wants to enjoy the benefits of right action, anything cannot and must not go. There must be a line of demarcation. It could be lawful but it does not mean that it is Godful.
What you intend to do may go against popular opinion or beliefs but if God be for you who can be against you.
1 Samuel 15: 21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
1) Because it comes to you naturally does not make it right.
Matthew 25: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth:
2) Because it is the only way you know how does not make it right.
Proverbs 6: 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
3) Because it is your right does not make it right.
2 Samuel 24: 22 And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood. 23 All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee. 24 And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
4) Because it looks good to the eyes does not mean it is good.
Genesis 3: 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
5) Because it is readily available does not make it right
Many things are readily available but they are not right.
If you are thirsty and gasoline is close by you do not start to drink it.
Because your wife is readily available does not mean she should be your punching bag, because your husband is readily available does not mean he is an object for you to spit and verbally cast aspersions on,
