“Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.” (1 Samuel.17:40, NKJV)

By the grace of the Almighty, we continue our studies.  No matter how simplistic it might look, embrace what will work.  What you should do for yourself, nobody will do it for you.  David took his staff in his hand he did not give it to another.

No matter what God has spoken to you or vision that you saw, there comes a time that you have to take action.  What you do not confront, you can never correct.  I am not saying that you have to be confrontational but proactive.

You have to walk towards the future that you want not stay in the rut that you despise.  Many people can talk the talk but it is not everyone that can do the deed.

It is important to reiterate that while decisions are important because they are the pathway to distinctions but the fulfillment lies in the execution.  The popular prodigal son said, “I will arise and go to my father…” (Luke 15:18a, KJV) and in Luke 15: 20a, the Bible says, “And he arose and came to his father…

Many good ideas have been left in the shelf of doubt, procrastination, worries and cowardice. Nothing ventured nothing gained.  If you aim at nothing you hit anything including misery.

Same thing with Abraham after God told him to leave his family.  It is recorded that, “So Abraham departed as the Lord had spoken unto him…( Genesis 12:4a, KJV)

We can also reference Moses, “He turned to see why the bush was burning and not consumed.  It was after God saw him turning that God gave him a mandate.

I have to point out that it is not enough for you to just walk towards your future, you have to make the steps meaningful towards your glorious destiny.  David told Saul that he will fight Goliath and he strategized.  Then David took his staff in his hand. After all said and done, you have to put what will enhance your destiny in your hand.  Of all the things that were around, look at the things that he took.

A staff is used to direct, correct and a symbol of government.  By his action, he was saying I am not aimless or haphazard there is a reason behind everything I am doing. He was in effect saying that my approach will be directional and intentional.  The Lord will order my steps and I will not be dancing to any man’s whims and caprices.  As I have heard so shall I do.

As a staff is a rod of correction also, by this he also implied that whatever is wrong in the land of Israel or evil that Goliath and Philistines want to impose shall be corrected.  You need to remember the wager—If Goliath wins all Israel will be the servant of the Philistines and vice versa.

What David did was to take charge of his glorious destiny.  Remember he had already been anointed to be the king of Israel therefore a victory for the philistines would mean that he will not ascend the throne.  He rejected that idea.  In life, there are some battles that no one can fight for you and there are some errands that you have to undertake by yourself.  You cannot send another person to defecate on your behalf.

David was telling every one that cared to discern that he will be in government, victor and in authority by taking the staff because a staff is a symbol of government.  You attitude and actions before any venture speaks volume therefore watch out for it.  People are now studying Emotional Intelligence and Human Kinetics.

The nuances that you deem as not have consequence or correlation can be the difference between you conquering or being conquered.

Any human always revert to what she is used to in the moment of challenges, what are you used to? What training do you have?

God never blesses emptiness.  You fruit according to the health and the quantity of the seed that you possess.  Where is your seed?  What is the state of your seed?

David took his staff presupposes that he had a staff.  He had something that he was used to. He had something that he was familiar with. He had a skill to revert to. It is whatever skill that you are developing now that will eventually make you distinct in life

Winners and overcomers have an attitude or mentality that speaks volumes.  Sometimes they don’t even have to say a word but the steps or actions that they take is always methodical and intentional.

By taking his staff in his hand he was telling every onlooker that I am ready—I am ready to go into warfare.  I am ready for a new beginning.  I am ready to conquer.  I am ready to become all that God has called me.  Are you ready?

David chose—what choices are you making in life.  You will find out that our choices in life depends on our values.  What do you value?  How are your present values affecting your destiny.  Are the effects positive or negative? Make sure that God is involved in any choice that you make in life.

He did not just choose, he chose five smooth stones—consider the process of smoothing anything in life.  Anything good takes time.  Many do not want to smoothen anything before we start utilizing it.

Though David needed just one stone to defeat Goliath but God reserved four more
