Text – Matthew 25:1-13
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT.
There is a place for determining one’s purpose and once that has been identified, the next step is to put a plan together.
What is Planning?
Planning is the process of deciding in advance what is to be done, who is to do it, how it is to be done and when it is to be done.
Planning is the process of determining a course of action, so as to achieve the desired results. It helps to bridge the gap from where we are, to where we want to go.
Planning is a design of a step by step approach to accomplishing a set goal.
These are various definitions of planning but I will like to add that planning becomes planning when you are committed to it. It is popularly said that if you fail to plan, you are plan to fail.
Jim Rohn – “Start from wherever you are and with whatever you’ve got”
Case study – The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. Let’s learn some Nuggets from this story.
- God is The Master Planner!
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” NLT. This is evident in creation, Genesis 1, you can see the step by step creation of things, there were 3 things God identified that was not correct with the earth
- It was without form
- It was void and
- It was filled with darkness
God set a plan in motion to correct it because He is detail oriented and loves orderliness. He ensured that all the necessities of life that will benefit mankind was created prior to the creation of man, not leaving anything to chance. As the world is evolving, you can see the great plan of God taking effect and it is people that He is using to carry out His plans. I am glad that I live in the generation of GPS whereby I can enter the address and it takes me to the destination but I can tell you that GPS has failed me a lot of times because it is not a perfect system, it always requires upgrades.
The Master planner does not need any upgrade, He is the Alpha and Omega that knows the end from the beginning, Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty”. That is what makes Him the Master Planner. It is important that you give Him full control of your life so that His perfect plan can manifest. God has a great plan for everyone, 5 out of the 10 virgins were living there lives to chance. They dreamt of meeting the bridegroom but missed the opportunity due to lack of proper planning. They allowed an opportunity that was going to change their destiny for the better pass them by, Pastor Tayo always says when preparation meets with opportunity success is inevitable.
The Master Planner never lacks a Plan, when one plan does not pan out, He already has another in the making, a good example is King Saul – whose Kingdom was supposed to be established forever in 1 Samuel 13:13 “And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever”. Since King Saul failed, God had already prepared a Man After His Heart in 1 Samuel 16:1 “Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” God does not waste time, He was ready to execute the next plan.
When you critically analyze the story of King Saul and David, if you have been chosen by God but refuse to make yourself available, your replacement is around the corner. That will not be our story in Jesus name.
God cares about plans, he cares about how things are done. It is important that we seek and follow God’s plan for our family, work, finances etc. It is important that you know and understand your purpose in life. When you do, it makes the remaining of the journey of life easier not to say that there would not be challenges along the way but knowing your purpose will keep you in the game or race of life, you will not allow distractions to stop you from obtaining your goal. You will stay committed to the plan of the objective.
- Insight is a Great Asset!
Insight is a great asset in the journey of life – people perish because there is lack of knowledge – “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6a. Insight is seeing or hearing what others cannot see or hear, a man of God rightly described it as “Insight provides an inexhaustible resource” as is the nature of The Master Planner. You never run dry of ideas or creativity. When you possess knowledge, you don’t rely on any inheritance, you create your own wealth.
The knowledge you have shall set you free John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. Having knowledge is key to every destiny because it sets you apart from others. Knowledge is the currency that the 5 wise virgins used that they strategically planned and purchased extra oil because they knew that anything can happen at anytime. That knowledge set them apart from the 5 foolish virgins. Proverbs 18:15 “The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge”. Do not joke with the knowledge God has endowed unto – what you don’t value will eventually decrease in value. Let your work determine your worth.
Proverbs 13:20 “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed”. How come the 5 foolish virgins did not know about the extra oil that the 5 wise virgins had on them? I leave this question with you.
It is those with knowledge that understand that when you sit to plan today, you will definitely shine tomorrow. James 4:2 “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not”.
You desire insight, you desire knowledge, you desire wisdom, then you have to ask the creator of it all Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”.
Jim Rohn “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much”.
- Life does not give you what you Deserve but what you Desire
People sometimes have a sense of entitlement. The 5 wise virgins prepared to have their dream become a reality but the 5 foolish virgins just kept it as a dream. Prayer is not a substitute for planning, in any human endeavour you cannot joke with planning. God worked out His desire for mankind and it is important that you also work out your desire. Philippians 2:12 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.
No matter how tall your father is, you will have to do your own growing up!!!
Jim Rohn “We must all wage an intense, lifelong battle against the constant downward pull. If we relax, the bugs and weeds of negativity will move into the garden and take away everything of value.”
