“…So Esau took it because Jacob insisted.” (Genesis 33:11b, GWT)
To insist is to demand, be emphatic, firm, resolute and in some cases to show passive aggression.
In life, we need to insist or make demands. Life never gives to a person what that person deserves but what –that person demands (John 16:24). Insistence is the mother of reception and it is a form of persuasion.
Many do not insist because of shame (Importunity—an insistent or pressing demand or in some cases persistence in solicitation (Luke 11:5-10).
They believe that they could be viewed as being weak or beggarly. A person that is ready to insist knows the enormity or importance of what he or she wants.
When you know that what you want lie with somebody else, insistence could be the only option. It is a form of desperation.
Why must you insist?
- There is no other way—Moses told God we are not moving an inch if your presence does not go with us (Exodus 33:15-16). The psalmist said, “If not for the Lord on our side..” (Psalm 124:1-8)
- That is the only way—response of Peter, where will we go to, you only have the word of life (John 6:68).
- You know what others do not know. Jacob knew that all the greetings and hugging between him and Esau was just a show. It was not from the heart. He needed to seal the deal. Accepting his gift will mean that Esau has forgiven him.
- He needs to know that you know—Come let us reason together (Isaiah 1:18), bring forth your strong reasons (Isaiah 41:21). Jesus responded to satan, It is written (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10).
- Disgrace and Defeat is around the corner (1 Kings 18:41-45) 2 Kings 5:14-15 (Naaman)
How To Insist?
For your persuasion to be profitable in the public, you must have spent time in prayer in the private. Genesis 32:24-31
- Start the Fight vs. 24
Jacob started the fight. When he sent his wives, children and servants away so that he will be left alone. The forces in the universe recognized that this man wanted something. By his actions, he was advertising that there is going to be a fight and only warriors need show up. Many victories experienced in the day is as a result of battles that had been fought and won in the night.
“Then Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming with his 400 men.” (Genesis 33:1, NLT)
You cannot be a firefighter. You have to be prepared if you want to prevail. If you have to wait till the enemy strikes before you start your preparation, you would lose mightily.
“Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold of the eternal life to which you were summoned and [for which] you confessed the good confession [of faith] before many witnesses.” (1Timothy 6:12, TAB)
- Stay the Course vs. 25
Jacob did not quit. Do not give up on your family, your dream, your vision, your purpose. Call on the God of Heaven. The answer you seek for your glorious home is not in the lawyers’ chambers. The good wife you seek is already in the wife you have so also the husband that you seek. It can still be worked out. Please eschew infidelity. Do not cheat on your wife or husband.
3. State the Terms vs. 26
Let the expectations be clear across board. What will you have me do?
4. Say the Truth vs. 27
When you say the truth, you are actually calling the name of Jesus because He is the way, the truth and the life. Speaking the truth draws Jesus near to you and your situation. Resolve to be truthful. He that comes to equity must come with clean hands.
- Serve the Lord vs. 30
When some people are going through challenges they run away from God believing that God cannot help them. The Israelites said something similar they asked, “Can God furnish a table in the wilderness.” i.e. can God provide a sumptuous meal in the wilderness? God provided. He is still the Jehovah Jireh.
6. See the Light vs. 31
Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. See the light at the end of the dark tunnel. Are you saying God is not a good God? Are you saying the potter cannot make corrections to the clay? Do you have more wisdom than God?
Job declared after he saw the light that, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You ask, Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance? It is I. And I was talking things I did not understand, things far too wonderful for me.” (Job 42:2-3, NLT)
7. Say the name
The Bible says, At the mention of the name of Jesus every knee shall bow.. I command in the might name of Jesus that every storm of affliction troubling your destiny will cease today in the mighty name of Jesus. I plead the blood of Jesus over the entirety of your home. When all the angels of confusion, strife, disorderliness, anger, disharmony, divorce, separation, etc., see your home, and your family, they will pass over you. No weapon formed or fashioned against you shall prosper. He is the Lord God of all flesh and there is nothing too difficult for him.
