Acts 28 3Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god. NIV
When we talk about Gear Force, we mean not taking things lying low. This is the ability to exercise your God given authority over negative situations. The word of God tells us that at a time Jesus prayed and the sweats on His body looked like blood. When Jacob was about to face Esau, he applied Gear Force. Other examples Daniel, Jehoshaphat, Acts 3: (Peter and the leper)
When you exercise authoritative or prompt action(s), you are initiating a governmental revolution. Government means the governing authority over a particular territory. Spiritually we can say the negative encroachment over your positive enlargement. So when we say governmental revolution we mean overthrowing everything that does not want you to make progress. An example is in the book of Exodus. The Lord said Let my people go and a man by the name Pharaoh said they will not go. God decided to organize a baptism of destruction for Pharaoh. Everything and situation that says you will not get what God has ordained to be your portion in 2017 will perish with the month of July in Jesus name.
Though Life is full of mistakes, misconceptions and mishaps but our approach to every challenging situation that we encounter will determine its outcome. As shocking as it might seem, man is of a few days and born into trouble.
Job 5: 7People are born for trouble as predictably as sparks fly upward from a fire. NLT
The purpose of your birth is to praise God by being victorious but you will encounter difficulties and challenges along the way and by His grace you will overcome them all. ““Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19, KJV)
The outcome of every difficulty you experience will be determined by your approach. The God that we serve is a God of approach. What enhances the approach of God to any given situation is his deep knowledge. God is always steps ahead because of knowledge.
In our text, a viper fastened on Paul, no record was given that he started screaming frantically or running from pillar to post neither did he go to an oracle, herbalist or seer. All he did was calmly shake the snake off into the fire. That was not the prescribed method, you call for assistance, you find a pole or rock to hit the snake, you flee, but Paul did none of these. His approach was to shake off the snake into the fire. Why?
Knowledge—enhances Authority / Action
Acts 27: 23“Last night God’s angel stood at my side, an angel of this God I serve, 24saying to me, “Don’t give up, Paul. You’re going to stand before Caesar yet–and everyone sailing with you is also going to make it.’ 25So, dear friends, take heart. I believe God will do exactly what he told me. MSG
Paul did this because of the knowledge of the word “You’re going to stand before Caesar”. At this point in his life he was on the island of Malta not Italy, he was with the barbarians not the Italians and he was with a snake not Caesar because the word of the Lord shall not go unfulfilled he knew death was not his portion yet. He has not completed the plan of God, he is still on a mission to fulfill a vision. When where you are does not look like where God has shown you or what He has said know that what you are seeing presently is only temporary.
While knowledge enhances Authority, power is domiciled in what you do with the authority. There is always a prescribed action for every situation and a right time for every action. When a woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus, Jesus did not answer the accusers a word all he did was write in the sand but at another time when Peter tried to dissuade him from fulfilling his mission, “He roared get behind me Satan…”
This is why right words are forcible—Job 6:25
Facts of Life
Vs 3—It is when you think you should be moving up that the viper would show up. Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and also laid them on the fire. Note that the viper came out of the heat. What you are doing is causing a ripple in the satanic kingdom. It is not everything that you do that pleases everybody. Sometimes you say a simple hello to some people and the next thing you hear is that why are you greeting me again. You want to use greeting to kill me. Know that it is not what you have said that has generated such a reaction something else is worrying them.
A young boy went to his brother once upon a time on the instruction of his father. This boy did not even go empty handed. He went with lots of gifts. The response of the brother was baffling, “When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” “Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?” (1 Samuel 17:28-29, NIV)
Vs 4 – When the people saw the venomous beast. How people see is not the way God sees. In 1 Samuel 16:7 The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. for the LORD seeth not as man seeth;
In the earlier verse it was a viper now it became a venomous beast. The size of the problem cannot be compared to the power of God. You may have been diagnosed with an ailment and you went for a further test and the doctors said it has grown. The size of the difficulty does not matter to God nor the duration. All power has been given unto Jesus in Heaven and on earth. At the mention of the name of Jesus every knee shall bow.
The people said, “No doubt this man is a murderer. Earthly summation does not equal heavenly conclusion. One man’s hatred cannot alter another man’s destiny
Vs 5—And he shook off the beast into the fire and felt no harm. Heaven is waiting for you to shake off the beast into the fire. You will feel no harm. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:11, KJV)
Beast – Fear (Luke 12:32), Failure (1 Chronicles 4:9-10), Frustration (Naaman 2 Kings 5:11-14), Fatigue (Elijah 1Kings 18:42-46), Unholy alliance (Jehoshaphat 2 Chronicles 18:
“Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together. For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.” (Isaiah 31:3-4, KJV)
Vs 6—They changed their minds. People are going to change their minds about you.
Zechariah 8:14-15 “This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Just as I had determined to bring disaster upon you and showed no pity when your fathers angered me,” says the LORD Almighty, 15 “so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid.
